Be more Queen Khong, visit the 4000 Islands in Laos!

Candid Kelly freelance travel writer 4000 Island Laos

“It is not necessarily at home that we best encounter our true selves. The furniture insists that we cannot change because it does not; the domestic setting keeps us tethered to the person we are in ordinary life, who may not be who we essentially are.”Alain De Botton

If you need time with yourself, or just in very closed company, Don Khong is an island you should seriously consider. No cars. No electricity after 10pm. Frequently you will be the only diner/s. I was depleted by the time I made it here. My group of backpacker friends were all in search of time too.

Time to just exist.

We whiled away evenings watching sunsets and playing cards, with Beer Lao and food that took far too long to arrive. limbs slumbered in hammocks and minds devoured books in a voracious thirst for absorbing so much more of the unknown that lies beyond our own tiny routines and norms.

Selfishly, these pictures set me at ease. Practically, the captions are my advice on how to approach a trip to 4000 Islands and what to expect!
